What is a bespoke gift box?
There are times when an off-the-shelf or stock gift box won’t fit the bill. Perhaps the size isn’t quite right, or the colour isn’t the correct shade or it’s only available in matt when you would really like a gloss finish. You may have searched the web for hours unsuccessfully. Perhaps it is time to consider a bespoke gift box.
A bespoke or custom-made rigid (or ready-made up) gift box is made exactly to your specification from scratch. The advantage being that your bespoke gift box will be unique and fit for purpose.
The following list details the various elements which will be discussed when developing a bespoke gift box:
Dimensions (Length x Width x Height)
Style of box - The most popular style is the two piece rigid gift box with lift-off lid. However, alternative options include a gift box with a hinged lid, a shoulder gift box, wrap around or clam shell gift box.
Quantity - Most manufacturers specify a minimum quantity of at least 50 boxes. Occasionally smaller quantities can be accommodated but this will depend on the overall specification of the gift box.
Board thickness - This is measured in microns. Generally, bespoke gift boxes are produced from board which is between 800 microns and 2000 microns thick. The size of the box dictates the thickness of the board used.
Lid Depth - This relates to how far the lid should come down the depth of the box.
External Colour - There are many paper coverings available in a range of colours and textures in matt or gloss finishes.
Internal Colour - The board is either white-lined or black-lined. This means that the inside of the box and lid will be either black or white. If a coloured lining is required, then a coloured paper can be used on the inside too.
Printing - Have your own logo or personalised text printed. There are several options including foil blocking, screen printing and litho printing. Full colour digital printing can also be carried out on smaller runs.
Inserts and lining - There are numerous options available here depending on the item going in the box. Card platforms are particularly useful where a product must be brought near to the top of the box. If a product needs to be held in place, a die cut card insert or foam insert will be custom made to fit your product to ensure a snug fit. For a luxury feel, a satin insert may be used over the top of a card insert or loose polystyrene beads to ensure the product is held in one place.
